Positive role modelling: support for parents of 3–11 year olds (8 Weeks)

A practical eight-week programme guiding parents on raising children aged 4–11 years. It is designed specifically forMuslim parents but appeals to all, drawing upon both Psychological and Islamic principles. Children learn from the example set by their parents; parents should be affectionate and merciful.

Programme Focus Areas

  • Communication: Improving listening and communication skills. Learning different types of praise, emphasizing that praise must be Clear, Specific, Positive, and Genuine.
  • Boundaries and Rules: Setting clear limits and boundaries. Setting family rules should be done at an appropriate time when all members are available, making the rules fair and achievable, and setting no more than five rules.
  • Behaviour and Discipline: Learning new parenting techniques, including methods to reduce difficult behaviour. This includes the use of the 5 Pillars of Parenting tool kit which involves: Ignoring, Distraction, Teaching, Consequences, and Thinking Time.
  • Faith and Values: Understanding Islamic references to parenting and raising children consistent with family beliefs.
  • Self care: Managing stress and life coaching skills.

Impact: Results demonstrated a significant change in families. Parents gain confidence in dealing with difficult behaviour.
